More West Coast Music: Listen To These Tracks B*tch! By @RanaDon

I figure since producer Drumma Boy (Waka‘s ‘No Hands’ & Wiz‘s ‘Phone Numbers’) already puts it so eloquently, I may as well use his tagline as the title for my post.
Let the records show I’m avoiding covering Lil’B aka Based God from Berkeley, California because…well I’m just not ready yet to admit the fact that I do ‘cook’ and hit my ‘Wonton Soup’ on occasion…I’m going to leave that up to the other folks. But people, his following is REAL and it is a little scary.
Back to Drumma boys, SoCal bred Travis Barker recently released his collab album, “Give the Drummer Some,” featuring the likes of Raekwon, Lil’ Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Kurrupt, E-40, & even The Cool Kids among many others. This former drummer from San Diego’s Blink-182 has released an album with better tracks than some of the projects mainstream rappers put out. I am thoroughly impressed at some of the songs and features, I also appreciate the amazing drum solos sprinkled throughout the album. While everybody else is talking about Pusha T‘s latest mixtape- I’m going to take a minute to say The Clipse DELIVER on one of my choice tracks on the album entitled, ‘City of Dreams’. Pusha T does his thing on the track and they even shout out THE west coast championship squad- ‘…ballin’ like the LAkers, haters, y’all don’t want the Kobe beef, I serve it raw like I’m ODB’. Barker closes out the solid 4 minute 48 seconds of the song with a banging *literally* drum solo. ‘If You Want To’ featuring Pharrell andLupe Fiasco is another great track that’s reminiscent of the classics on N.E.R.D.’s past albums- it also makes me recall CRS: the Kanye, Lupe, Pharrell outfit that was way too short lived. Barker actually has production credit on every song on the album. ‘Give the Drummer Some’  is very high energy and Barker capitalizes in a big way from his premier guest spots.

Speaking of artist-producers, songwriter/producer/singer Kadis is making the crossover from behind the engineering boards to in front of the mic. Kadis has worked with artists ranging from G-Unit & 50 Cent to Brandy. Serious about music since he was young, he even majored in Music Business. This Boston native is venturing out on his own and handling every portion of the creative process which results in a unique sound that has crossover appeal. Check out his single ‘Bassline‘ featuring Southern Cali’s Audio Push.

Randomly doing some online reading I came across new rapper AlphaBit hailing from Los Angeles (via dubcnn.com). Curious that I haven’t heard much about him AT ALL I clicked play on his single ‘Cheers’ and… I actually dig it .  The soul sample and his delivery ’tain’t bad. Check out all two minutes and some change of the song. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more of what he has in store.

Cheers,

Rana
